Rhinestone, aka “Mickey” became ours in 1980, as a weanling. He was trained to both harness and saddle. He was shown in the mid-1980’s at several of the Class A shows in New England.  Our first foal, Sleipnir Valhalla (UVM Viking x UC Spicy Lass), and he were turn out buddies, stablemates, trailermates, and show stablemates.

Rhinestone was first bred to U C Spicy Lass, our first Morgan, for a 1983 foal, who became a filly, Sleipnir Constelaton.  See a separate forthcoming post about her.

He went on to sire more foals for us, and others,  in Massachusetts, and after our move to Tennessee.  He was always a gentleman to his mares, and never came off his feet until John told him ok.

Three of our current herd sires are his sons:  Sleipnir Carbon Copy (x Coeur d’Alene); Sleipnir Sequoyah (x Coeur d’Alene); and Sleipnir Zenith (x Hip Heath Zanna). And our other herd sire is a grandson, Sleipnir Echo’s Finale (Exquisite Sir Echo x Sleipnir Constelaton). He has another son who has been active as a Stud.

We still have a few of his daughters in the herd also.  Sleipnir Constelaton is retired, and our current matriarch at 30 y/o; Sleipnir Sophisticated Lady, a full sister to S. Zenith; and Sleipnir OnStar (x NEJ Golddust Louise). He has other daughters who were sold to be utilized as show horses, parade, breeding, and family trail horses. And grand-daughters out there too.

We have one of his gelding sons, Sleipnir Fieldstone (x NEJ Golddust Emma) as one of our primary family harness horses.  The other is his grandson via S. Constelaton (Sleipnir Celestial Array). He has gelding sons as national show horses, lesson horses, trail, and backyard pleasure mounts.  One son has been an actor in historic re-enactments. He also has grandsons performing in many of these careers.

Rhinestone was born in New York, and lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Iowa and Tennessee.  He is buried here on the farm near his buddy, Valhalla and other here-for-the-duration members of the Herd.
