Sleipnir Onstar – 2003 Black Morgan Mare – Harness and Saddle – On the Way to the Grand National

Sleipnir Onstar, our 2003, BLACK driving and saddle mare is on her way to the Morgan Horse 2011 Grand National Horse Show, to be shown in Roadster To Bike.

S. Onstar, is a very versatile Morgan Mare with impeccable breeding that can complement any breeding program.
While she follows Travis Olinger, her trainer, around like a puppy, she could easily gear up or down and could be a harness mare in any of the Divisions: Park Harness, Pleasure Driving or Roadster to Bike. She is being shown in the Roadster-to-Bike class. Dr. John has always wanted a Roadster to Bike contender, and S. Onstar definitely can show her stuff. She could hold her own with some of the best in morgan history.
Onstar commenced her career at home being a lesson horse for our young amateur grandchildren. She can vary her tempo and speed for her rider. She has been ridden in Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, and Western tack. She is a prime example of our breeding and training motto: Family Show Horses : Showy Family Horses
She is one of B-L Rhinestone Kid’s (Waseeka’s Showtime x B-L Brown Lace, by UVM Flash) only producing-aged daughters available. Her dam, NEJ Golddust Louise, (Golddust Miner M C x Alaba Dolly – Trophy and Beamington) has been sold to be a parade horse and broodmare. Since Rhinestone is deceased and Louise has been sold, S. Onstar is a unique cross, never to be repeated.

She is trained, and will be shown by Travis Olinger, who has been a horseman since his early youth. He is calm, quiet, and methodical in his training methods; and enjoys working with amateur owners.  His well-known family specializes in Roadster Harness  Hackney ponies and Saddlebreds in Harness, as might be expected in Eastern Tennessee. But he enjoys his time with our sensible, intelligent, and fancy Morgan Horses. Look for pictures of his four year old daughter driving Sleipnir Fieldstone, (B-L Rhinestone Kid x NEJ Golddust Emma).

Wish us well and look for new photos of her in her www.ImagesnMemories.com  Sleipnir Morgan Horse Farm public gallery, mares for sale gallery, SOON.

Driving Horses at Sleipnir Morgan Horse Farm (SMHF), Delano, Tennessee

I have had people talking to me about driving horses recently. Not all Morgans know how to drive. But many start their working career by learning to drive. Here is a brief discussion of horses on the farm, many of which are for sale and know how to be driven.
Sleipnir Constellation (Connie) 1983 and Coeur d’Alene (Alene) 1988 both know well how to be driven. Connie was a well-known show horse in New England in the 1980’s. Alene is the dam of two of our stallions and Connie is the dam of another. They are both dams of members of our next generation broodmare band as well. They are retired broodmares and happily munch grass together in a nice paddock. They both love carrots. May’s Sweetie (1984) was the main driving horse for a prominent, knowledgeable carriage driver. She is blind in one eye from an old injury, and is also a retired broodmare here on our farm. We have a few of her very nice “Produce” for sale for us and for her owner. Playday Rebecca (Becca) 1990 and NEJ Golddust Emma (a “Sweetie” daughter) (1995) are broodmares only, and are hopefully in foal. NEJ Golddust Alice (also a “Sweetie” daughter) (1993) has never been hooked, but she has been ground-driven with untrained horses in pairs, probably the only one doing so on the farm…with the kids (Amber for sure). Alice and Emma are both available, and Sweetie could be persuaded to accompany either or both of her daughters as a companion horse to a new home.

Sleipnir Southern Cross (Blaze) 1998 and Sleipnir Spice on Top (Topsie) 1999 both know how to be driven. They have both been driven by several different drivers. Neither one are currently offered for sale as they are planned replacement pedigrees for the broodmare band. Cece (Triagn Smooth Sailing) our gorgeous Palomino mare is intended to be a pleasure, and/or carriage, driving mare, prior to our breeding her to Sleipnir Echo’s Finale. S. Sophisticated Lady (Sophie) 2001 hasn’t been hooked; and is intended to join S. Southern Cross, S. Spice on Top, S. Andromeda, and Triagn Smooth Sailing as the next-generation broodmare band.
Sleipnir Celestial Array (Array) 2002 and Sleipnir Fieldstone (Fieldstone) 2006. Array and Fieldstone, both bay geldings, were both started by an experienced morgan horse driver. Array is at the Nerlands being used as Chris’ Hunt Seat saddle horse and Fieldstone is going to Travis Olinger to get tuned up for The Liberty United Classic Horse Show. Both are professional quality, amateur-safe, and are for sale and available.

R’surene Reparte (1995) knows how to be driven, and has been shown in Pleasure Driving by Chris. Reparte is available for sale by the Nerlands. He can be seen here at our farm. NEJ Golddust Jaxx (1993) and NEJ Golddust Wilbur (1994) have had basic training for driving and saddle work. They are BIG, TALL, SOLID BLACK horses bred to be part of a four-in-hand for a well-known carriage driving enthusiast. Others of their siblings may also be available. Alice and Emma are here on our farm; these guys are nearby.

All four current stallions: S. Carbon Copy (2000) S. Sequoyah (2003) S. Echo’s Finale (2004) and S. Zenith (2004) have had ground-driving experience, but none have been hooked. Three of them are For Sale and would make excellent Class A Pleasure Driving stallions (or geldings). All are pleasant to work with, and all are also available At Stud. We only breed a couple horses a year, and we don’t need four stallions.
Sleipnir Onstar, (2003 )our Black mare, of course, drives. Trained for western saddle, and used with Hunt Tack, and probably Saddle Seat Tack, Onstar’s early career, believe it or not, was as a lesson horse for our YOUNG beginner grandchildren. She has been in training with Travis Olinger for driving and she has made her Morgan Horse Class A show ring debut this year in Roadster to Bike! Onstar has a couple more Class A Morgan Horse Shows this year with Travis. Onstar can move up or down the class lists and has been a well-kept secret in Morgandom. Many people who watched her debut at the Bluegrass Morgan in Kentucky against well-known former Park Horses, wondered who she was. People won’t be wondering much longer. Onstar follows Travis like a puppy back to the barn, stands quiet to be tacked up, is great for the farrier and veterinarian, and has the pedigree and conformation to benefit ANY Morgan breeding program. She is one of the few remaining B-L Rhinestone Kid producing daughters.
Sleipnir Onstar exemplifies our motto: Family Show Horses: Showy Family Horses.

All four of our young junior horses can be ground-driven and are For Sale. They are like all our horses, beautiful, talented, great pedigrees, superior conformation, and willing personalities. S. Hiwassee and S. Echo’s Celebrity (“Bree”) (2009) have started their ground training to drive and can progress to the hooking stage. S. Double Feature (“DF”) and S. Resonance (“Res”) 2010 probably ought to wait until late winter to hook. They might make a great tall chestnut driving pair with their similar markings. However, each could have a fine show or family career on their own.
I am currently writing new updates for the individual pages for each of the “For Sale” horses. Pictures of all of the For Sale Horses can be seen by clicking on their individual photos from the home page OR
By going to www.ImagesnMemories.com then Galleries, then SMHF – Public Galleries, then Stallions, Mares or Geldings For Sale and each individual horse has a few pages of pictures.

We are happy to talk pedigrees, talents, etc. Feel free to email, or call to discuss any of the horses. If we do not have something to suit you, we’ll know other Morgan Horse people that might. Amber (McGee) our oldest grand-daughter is showing the Class A shows down south, in training with Sue Nerland (& Chris)  and the youngest, grand-daughter, Kaya Bayard, is their groom. So, you may even find us on the rail. Last year was the first time since 1988, with Beth, Caitrin, and Britta, (and John!)
Also, Elizabeth (McGee), our oldest daughter, is the Show Manager for the Liberty United Classic Horse Show in Cleveland, TN, 37325, September 24 & 25 (Saturday and Sunday). It is going to be a major show for Morgans, and other breeds. This is the first year that it is rated THREE STARS AMHA. Plan on seeing us all there! http://LibertyUnitedHorseShow.yolasite.com and come for a visit to the farm, we are just a few minutes north of the show ground.

Chestnut Morgan Horses for Sale at Sleipnir Morgan Horse Farm

NEJ Golddust Alice:  (Golddust Miner M C x May’s Sweetie) Alice is a 1993 gleaming brown chestnut mare, who has been the Dam of Three of our best foals, by three different sires. Her first foal by B-L Rhinestone Kid, Sleipnir Onyx, a black mare, was sold to be a fancy Parade horse and a core member of a Morgan breeding farm. Her black son, Sleipnir Smoky Mountain, by Sleipnir Sequoyah, has recently gone to be a family pleasure riding and driving horse; and her third foal, Sleipnir Resonance, a chestnut colt, by Sleipnir Echo’s Finale, is an almost perfect pair to Sleipnir Double Feature.  Resonance will be tall and elegant.

We have left Alice open for 2011.  She can come with, or without, a breeding to any of our gorgeous, athletic, personable stallions. Alice has been professionally trained for Western saddle.  She has also been ridden English style. She has been used extensively as a lesson horse in the round pen, ring, and in the field by our grand-children.  She trailers well, and has been taken to trail rides in the forest.  Alice stands well for the veterinarian and the farrier, and for grooming.  She, like all the horses on our farm, is used to children, dogs, cats, geese, guinea hens and others.  She has been pastured alone and in large herds.  Alice is a good mare to work with for breeding and delivery.  She is a good mother, but also willing to let us work with her foal.

Alice will sell current on her wormings, vaccinations, and a Negative Coggins. She will be eligible for an Interstate health certificate. She is tall; and throws a tall foal. Alice is not our horse.  We sell her as agents for other owners.  She is the ONLY proven broodmare ever SOLD by this long-time breeding farm.  Alice is worth every bit of her price; but her owners have had a home fire, etc. and will be negotiable to a GOOD and loving home only.

Sleipnir Echo’s Celebrity: (Sleipnir Echo’s Finale x Playday Rebecca).  “Bree” is an elegant, finely formed DARK chestnut filly, born in 2010.  She typifies our breeding program: consisting of Waseeka’s and Orcland bloodlines, as well as “Old Government” and other select lines.  She has Champions in her background and the athletic ability to be a champion herself. Bree is finely and elegantly wrought, but has a solid underlying framework, making her a great candidate eventually for the breeding shed.

She is a super friendly and willing filly, who, as a coming 2 y/o, is ready to begin ground driving and driving training. “Bree”, like all our horses, will sell current on her vaccinations and wormings, and with a Negative Coggins.

Sleipnir Double Feature: (Sleipnir Echo’s Finale x Playday Rebecca) 2010 Red Chestnut colt, to be gelded. “D F” is still a colt, and if you want a stallion prospect, he is an excellent choice.  Bred with Champion bloodlines, this young gentleman has the athletic ability and presence that is expected from fine quality bloodlines.  D F is the leader of the 2010 trio of colts; and has bonded well with the senior former broodmares, and with S. Explorer, who have all been paddock friends and “colt-sitters”.  DF halters and leads and is learning the grooming process.  We let our foals be babies, but they are all “imprinted” at birth, and interacted with daily by amateurs.

We expect DF to be fairly tall, in the 14.3-15.1 range at maturity.  He is a vision running throughout his very large paddock, and has a good coat and a cute diamond mid-face; fully chestnut legs.  He may be darker as he matures, but currently is red chestnut like his sire.   Buy him with or without his almost perfect pair half brother, Sleipnir Resonance.

Sleipnir Resonance: (Sleipnir Echo’s Finale x NEJ Golddust Alice) 2010 Red Chestnut colt, to be gelded.  Resonance or “Res” is by the same stallion as D F; and out of the very nice, tall mare, NEJ Golddust Alice.  He also is fully chestnut with cute small white markings on his face.  Resonance is a couple months younger than the other 2 colts born this year, but he looks almost as big as his half brother DF.  They will be roughly the same size; with very similar markings.  He was imprinted at birth; and stands for his halter going on and off. As I said, we do let our foals be babies; but they are inter-acted with on a daily basis by our seasoned amateurs. He is also learning to stand to be groomed.  Like DF, he will be gelded prior to fly season; but would make an excellent stallion prospect, athletic and willing with the bloodlines to back him up! THESE TWO FELLOWS WOULD MAKE AN EXCELLENT DRIVING PAIR. They would equally be suitable for the show ring or as talented trail horses.  They will mature tall enough for a man; and be elegant enough for a woman. S. Resonance, like all our horses, will sell current on his wormings, and vaccinations, and with a Negative Coggins.

Pictures of all are available on their individual web pages; and in the Sleipnir Morgan Horse Farm Public Gallery on www.ImagesnMemories.com >> Galleries >> Sleipnir Morgan Horse Farm – Public Gallery

Currently Not For Sale, but would consider selling:

Playday Rebecca: (Stoneholm Taliesin x Stoneholm Alameda), 1990 DARK Chestnut mare. ‘Becca is royally bred.  She is a grand-daughter of Waseeka’s Showtime, through his Grand Champion son, Stoneholm Taliesin.  Alameda is an Upwey Ben Don granddaughter, out of a Lippitt bred mare.  Rebecca is the dam of three of our nicest youngsters: Triagn Smooth Sailing (CeCe) our beautiful Palomino mare; Sleipnir Echo’s Celebrity, a very fancy DARK chestnut filly; and Sleipnir Double Feature, a spectacularly fine chestnut colt, who is double Waseeka’s Showtime…

We gave ‘Becca a break from foaling for 2011.  She can come with a breeding to Sleipnir Echo’s Celebrity, our super special Chestnut stallion, or to any of our other fine quality stallions.

BLACK Morgan Horses at Sleipnir Morgan Horse Farm

AN UPDATE:

Sleipnir Smoky Mountain and Sleipnir Ocoee have been sold and moved to a new home here in Tennessee. We are very pleased at the long-term/permanent placement in a loving, horse-knowledgeable home. The guys are 2009 and 2010 models, and they loaded, trailered, and unloaded like they were veterans. Our horses are pleasant-tempered and willing.

They were both B-L Rhinestone Kid grand-get via his handsome black son, Sleipnir Sequoyah. Sequoyah, a full brother to Sleipnir Carbon Copy, is out of our Breezeway daughter, Coeur d’Alene, who is a deep chestnut brown.

S. Sequoyah has been quite popular as a breeding stallion. We only have one of his foals left, a coming 2 y/o filly, Sleipnir Hiwassee. We did not breed for any foals for next year, to give our mares some time off, and prior to starting some new mares. So, if you want a Sequoyah foal, come see S. Hiwassee! She is truly a treasure. A super friendly, loving, and very athletic filly.

S. Sequoyah will be available for hand breeding in 2011 to approved mares; and we are considering training him to a mount, for shipping. We’ll keep you posted.

Reggie’s Black Rose: 1999 Black Mare Trail, Broodmare, Show. Rose is a perfect Ambassadress of the Morgan breed. Sweet and willing. Rides, broodmare, very cute. Lots of trailering experience!

Sleipnir Onstar: 2003 Black Mare Class A National Caliber.  Onstar will be a star in anyone’s stable. Professionally trained to ride and drive. Currently ready for an exceptional season as a Roadster to Bike horse. Bloodlines and conformation to complement any breeding program. Exquisite and athletic. Show her under saddle or in harness.

Sleipnir Hiwassee: 2009 Black Filly Ready to start driving training. Hiwassee, or “Meadow” as her Cherokee name translates, is an absolute sweetheart. Super friendly and willing to please, she’ll be right at the gate to greet you and go to work. A favorite of visitors.

*Two BLACK broodmares belonging to other owners might be available; ONLY sold together, and ONLY to a special home!!

* There is also a Black Bay mare, GAITED, belonging to other owners, off the farm, that is available. NEJ Golddust Sadie (1993). An especially interesting horse for here in the South! She has exceptional bloodlines for breeding use.

Sleipnir Sequoyah: 2003 Black Stallion.  Class A National Caliber. Proven sire: 3 Blacks, 1 Dark Chestnut 3 G (two still colts): 1 M Solid, athletic, fabulous temperament and conformation. He is pleasant to use for breeding; respects his handler and his mares. Would make a spectacular harness horse, or English Pleasure. Can be gelded.

* There are also two Black Geldings, NEJ Golddust St. Jaxx and NEJ Golddust Wilbur, belonging to other owners, off the farm, that are available. Both Jaxx (1993) and Wilbur (1994) have had some ground training, but have not been hooked, though they have had people on their backs for a few rides. I recently saw Wilbur, and refreshed my memory about how large he is! Up close he resembles a Friesian…Tall and solid framework. They are available separately or ask for a package with NEJ Golddust Sadie.

All of our Morgan Horses stand well for the farrier and the vet. At minimum, single tie for grooming; and are current on vaccinations, Negative Coggins, wormings, and can have an Interstate travel health certificate.

All are raised around children, dogs, cats, geese, guinea hens, etc.

See their individual pages on our website for links to photos and their complete pedigrees. Their pedigrees are also available on: www.allbreedpedigree.com

Bay Morgan Horses For Sale

A Bay coat color on a horse is a combination of colors. The Bay horse’s body can range in shades of brown from a light tan to a magnificent glowing brilliant Mahogany Brown. The mane, tail, and below the knees are Black.

In a previous post, I wrote about our Black Morgan Horses for sale. These five are our Bay Morgan Horses that are currently For Sale.

Our Bay Morgans For Sale are: Two Bay Stallions and Three Bay Geldings, others considered for sale:

Sleipnir Carbon Copy (B-L Rhinestone Kid x Coeur d’Alene, a Breezeway daughter, out of a Funquest Falcon grand-daughter). Born in 2000, Carbon is a glorious Mahogany Brown. He has had a good bit of ground driving training, up to the hooking stage, including by professional trainers; and has been ridden by men, and our teenage grand-daughter. Although he doesn’t have his sire’s coat color, he is wide-chested, straight –legged and athletic like his sire. He is super smart and loves to work. He remembers where you have left off with his training, and starts right back up with only the slightest reminder. He stands well for the farrier and the veterinarian; and is current on his Negative Coggins, vaccinations, and wormings.

He can be gelded, and would be a standout in almost any Show division; or sturdy on the trail.

Sleipnir Zenith (B-L Rhinestone Kid x Hip Heath Zanna, a Courage of Equinox daughter). Born in 2004, Zenith was Hip Heath Zanna’s final foal. He is absolutely gorgeous and royally bred. Zanna’s dam was UVM Flirt, a Stanfield daughter, out of a Tutor daughter. He combines the best of Old Government and Waseeka’s Showtime, and the beauty of Upwey Ben Don. Zenith has a willing attitude, and is a quick learner. He has professional and amateur training, and has been ground driven to the hooking stage and ridden by amateurs, including our grand-daughter.

Gelded he could be a star in multiple disciplines. As a stallion, there couldn’t be better bloodlines to cross with the “predominant” show horse lines; or for a solid using horse. His full brother, Sleipnir Zeus, is a spectacular Black Gelding, who was sold as a person’s pleasure horse. Zenith, like all our horses, comes current on his Negative Coggins, vaccinations, and wormings. He stands for the farrier and the veterinarian, and he LOVES handfuls of grass. He is stalled near our organic greenhouse, and is the first horse to greet visitors to the farm, greenhouse, and antique shop.

Sleipnir Celestial Array (Hylee The Rage x Sleipnir Constellation, our champion mare by B-L Rhinestone Kid). Born in 2002, Array can go from hanging around the pasture to a winning show horse. He has been professionally trained and shown Western, and won Grand Champion In-hand at the Liberty Classic Horse Show (as picture). He has been the “cover” horse for the following year’s Liberty Classic Horse Show Program. Array loves attention, stands well for all his grooming needs, the veterinarian and the farrier. He trailers well, and like all our horses, he comes with a Negative Coggins, all his vaccinations and wormings current.

Array was gelded since we had too many stallions, and not enough geldings. He has fabulous conformation, a willing attitude, and athletic talent. Array is changing careers to Hunt and/or Saddle Seat Equitation and Pleasure after his earlier training as a Western Horse. Last Summer, we trained him to drive; there is a video of him being driven on our website. He will also continue driving in 2011.

Sleipnir Explorer (B-L Rhinestone Kid x May’s Sweetie). Born in 2005, Explorer is our final horse available from the Golden Cross of Rhinestone and Sweetie, a fabulous driving mare, who is every bit as sweet as her name implies. Explorer is a deep, dark Bay with great conformation and athleticism, and a wonderful attitude.

Started almost exclusively by our grand-daughter, Amber, S. Explorer has improved throughout his show career. He has been shown lightly at 4-H and local shows, and was Reserve Champion In-Hand Horses at Liberty Classic Horse Show. He and Amber have moved up to training under Sue Nerland, a well-known horse and rider Equitation trainer in the Morgan World. They have continued showing at the Class A circuit and have placed well, and improved continually.

S. Explorer trailers well, stands well for the veterinarian and farrier. He has worn show shoes, and does equally well trimmed down for the pasture. He is current on his vaccinations and wormings, and comes with a Negative Coggins.

Amber will be going off to college in the Autumn of 2011. However, until sold, they will continue their winning team.

Sleipnir Fieldstone (B-L Rhinestone Kid x NEJ Golddust Emma, Sweetie’s super-sweet daughter). Born in 2006, this gleaming coated lighter tan bodied Bay Gelding is a special ambassador of the farm. He has been tremendously patient and tolerant of small children and crowds since he was a little guy. As a 2 y/o, we used him for an Open Barn Event with three active boys and a crowd that got up close. As a 4 y/o, we brought him to a Fun on the Farm Event, where he was surrounded for hours by one class of kindergarteners after another, plus parents, grandparents, siblings, and camera flashes.

He trailers, stands well for the farrier and the veterinarian, and for grooming. He is current on his Negative Coggins, vaccinations, and wormings.

S. Fieldstone has been ridden by amateurs, and driven by amateurs. He has been a pasture mate to older and younger horses, and is flexible and easy-going. He is ready to follow S. Celestial Array and S. Explorer in to the show world; or he would be an attentive and athletic friend on the trails.

Pictures, video and more about each horse on our website. www.SleipnirMorganHorseFarm.com  and pedigrees for the entire herd are on www.allbreedpedigrees.com

Come visit them and all the Sleipnir (and friends) Morgan Horses over the holidays.  Let’s have some Hot Chocolate in the Antique Shop on the farm (www.TheShopsAtMorganLane.com) and talk about Morgan horses!
